presentation review victrix scorpio T 338LM

Victrix, the Italian premium firearm manufacturer, is targeting professionals with this weapon, but also long-distance sports shooters.

The chassis:

The handguard is equipped along its entire length with M-Lock slots for mounting all kinds of accessories: Picatinny rail or others.

The top of the handguard is equipped with a full-length picatinny rail, each picatinny location is numbered so that you can quickly replace any accessory in the same position (night vision, etc.)

Below the handguard there are two picatinny rails, one on the front and the other near the magazine. The picatinny at the end of the handguard is equipped with a QD slot, it will be used mainly for attaching a bipod

The second Picatinny is more oriented towards the attachment of a carrying handle (available as an option) or an adapter for shooting on a tripod.

a few words about the handle: It is equipped with a quick release to quickly mount or remove it, the handle itself is equipped with a QD mount and a picatinny to allow mounting on a tripod for example.

We now arrive at the central part of the chassis which accommodates the case and the charger, this part is asymmetrical, the left side being hollowed out in order to facilitate the insertion of the charger.

The handle is AR 15 type with some ergonomics, the grip is very good.

The stock is mounted on a pivot in order to be able to gain in compactness during transport, allowing to go from a total length of the weapon of 127.5 cm to 102 cm this function is ensured by a hinge which is activated using a push button present on the left side of the weapon.

Once folded down, the stock is held in the closed position using a “clip” which can be released by hand by folding down the stock.

It is good to note that the stock folds perfectly whether the slide is in the open or closed position. Be careful when closing the stock not to leave a finger in it...

The butt now:

This part is very ergonomic while being refined, there are 3 settings:

  • height of the support plays on 7 possible positions
  • Length of the butt in 5 possible positions
  • 7-position butt plate height adjustment possible.

Each of the settings listed above can be used with a button. Each setting is equipped with an internal spring that when the button is pressed deploys the element fully, then simply push the cheek rest with the cheek and release the button once in the correct position.

The underside of the stock has 7 threads allowing the attachment of a picatinny rail or accessories such as a monopod.

At the end there is a reversible QD type attachment for mounting a sling/carry strap.

The cylinder head housing and its cylinder head

The real quality of this weapon is found in this receiver assembly, the actuation of which is of a fluidity rarely encountered on a series weapon. The receiver is equipped with a raised and perforated 20 MOA rail in order to save weight. The ejection window allows for flawless ejection whether the slide is operated quickly or slowly.

The breech: equipped with 6 tenons at the head of a SAKO type extractor and an ejector.

The body of the slide is fluted which, added to the coating, gives the slide an unparalleled "slide". There are 4 vents on the slide to release the gases in the event of a case or primer rupture in order to protect the shooter and the equipment.

The angled and oversized bolt lever is very ergonomic, it is held by a screw, in the event of breakage this makes it easier to change the lever.

The rear of the slide has a red indicator to show if the firing pin is under tension.

The charger:

This weapon uses a proprietary Victrix magazine, “double stack double feed”, which means that the ammunition stacks in 2 columns in the magazine and can feed the weapon from the left or right stack.

This method results in a short and compact magazine capable of holding 10 rounds of 338LM. The cherry on the cake for magazines is that the magazine accepts ammunition up to 98 mm in length, 5 mm longer than the CIP standard!

A small feature of this charger is that if the charger is empty, the slide cannot be closed and therefore warns that the charger is empty! The sides are made of metal, the lifting board is made of plastic as well as the base of the charger.

The magazine release lever is in the central position, accessible with the index finger whether you are left or right handed.

The trigger mechanism:

This is a Victrix manufactured trigger, this trigger is originally with a boss but can be converted into a direct trigger. All the information on this modification is presented in the technical documentation sold with the weapon. The starting weight is close to 1.5 kg but the start is extremely frank and the weight can go down to 800 grams.

Canon:

We are in the presence of a German Lothar Walther 26 inch barrel with a pitch of 1:10” in both 338LM and 300 NM. The barrel is “semi heavy” with a diameter of 21 mm at the muzzle, Victrix announces that these barrels have the “match treatment” proposed by Lothar Walther which consists of a succession of internal polishing. The muzzle of the barrel is threaded with a standard M18 thread.

The muzzle brake:

The weapon is equipped with a muzzle brake with an impressive design, equipped with 3 vents, it is very effective, assembly is easy and locking in position/indexing is carried out by tightening a 6-sided screw.

The carrying case:

Victrix is one of the few rifle manufacturers to offer a means of transport with its weapons. This is an explorer case that allows the weapon to be transported with the stock unfolded. The overall quality of the case is very good, the absence of wheels on the case is still to be deplored for a weapon of this standing... the wheels being optional for 30 euros, a bit stingy for a weapon at almost 7000€.
